In 1962, NASA knew how to put one man in orbit for a few hours. The Moon required rendezvous, docking, spacewalks, precision reentry, and two-week missions.

Gemini existed to learn every one of those skills — fast.

TEN FLIGHTS IN TWENTY MONTHS

Between March 1965 and November 1966, ten two-man Gemini crews flew at a pace no program has matched since.

First American spacewalk. First rendezvous. First docking. First two-week flight. Each mission checked a box Apollo could not fly without.

THE TWO-SEAT MACHINE

The Gemini spacecraft itself was a pilot's spacecraft — the first with onboard computing for orbital maneuvers, ejection seats, and a design astronauts could truly fly rather than ride.

Its cutaway diagrams remain some of the most beautiful engineering drawings of the era. We may be biased.

WHAT GEMINI TAUGHT APOLLO

Every technique used to land on the Moon and come home — meeting another vehicle in orbit, joining with it, working outside — was rehearsed here first.
